Dementia

Dementia is a term used to describe many different conditions related to memory loss and cognitive skills. Brain cells become damaged and they can no longer communicate with each other, therefore the brain is not able to carry out its normal functions.

The symptoms of Dementia vary greatly but in general it is the act of memory loss, difficulty in communication and language, visual perception, reasoning and judgement, and the ability to focus on a task and pay attention.

A doctor will need to work hard to determine the exact type and cause of Dementia in a patient and in most cases it’s wise to see a specialist for treatments and care. There is no cure and it is a progressive disease that will get worse over time, it can, however, be monitored and the patient may find some temporary relief in treatment.
